I was flipping through a book today when I read this line, I’m not waving, I’m drowning! Immediately so many thoughts and feelings flooded my heart and mind. I have sent so many signals for help over the years and been misunderstood, ignored, or been given help that was, indeed, worse than no help at all. Most often people have waved back and kept on walking by; either ignorant of the fact that I was in need of help or simply had no idea how to step out of their comfort zone, lay aside their own “do not disturb” sign and reach out with the love of God. It’s even probable some of them didn’t care.
Until one day that all changed. Knowing there had to be something better out there I kept on struggling to stay alive, I kept on flailing and finally someone saw it for what it was. He didn’t wave back and keep walking he tossed me a lifeline. He reached out with God’s love and towed in that lifeline while I hung on for all I was worth.
God’s love. It’s so MUCH more than anything I had ever been taught it was. I have never been loved like this. Completely unconditional, no holds barred, love that doesn’t depend on who I am or what I do – it’s always there. It doesn’t get angry with me, it’s lightening quick to forgive. It’s amazing. God’s love in action… changed my life.
I am no longer flailing, I’m no longer drowning. I am secure in the love of a few people who love me like Jesus loves me and thanks to them I have a whole new understanding of how GOD loves me.
I am learning how to be FREE in Christ and I now long to please Him in each and every thought, I want everything I do or say to bring GLORY to Him. I don’t always succeed… but by God’s GRACE I get back up and keep trying.
I wish to show others God’s love. To be to them what my dad and mom and big sister have been to me; shining examples of what God can do when we allow HIM to love through us!
Next time you see someone waving.. Look again. Make sure they’re not drowning!
